Nkyinkyin - Adinkra Symbol Design
Nkyinkyin represents the ability to resist and adapt to the changes of life.
The literal translation* of the word Nkyinkyin in Akan is "twistings", but the symbolic meaning of Nkyinkyin can not be limited to a single word. Adinkra symbols are West African designs that have represented elements of Ghanaian values and culture for hundreds of years.
*Literal translation from the book: "The Adinkra Dictionary - A Visual Primer on the Language of Adinkra" and my parents. Akan (or Twi) is a language spoken in both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
